Different Hair Coloring Methods to Choose From
Whether you find yourself going gray or just are bored with your natural hair color, hair highlighting is a popular choice for women and becoming increasingly more popular for men as well. If you have decided it is time to change your hair color, you must first decide what technique of coloring is the best choice for you. Here are a few different options to consider:
One Step Process, Semi-Permanent or Permanent
A one step process color application alters the hair’s color in one easy step. The new color or tone is applied all over the head, creating the new color and providing 100% gray coverage. Permanent color lasts in the hair until it grows out. Semi-permanent color provides tone on tone color variations and normally lasts up to a month. Semi-permanent color will not provide coverage for gray but will leave the hair feeling tremendously soft and extremely shinny.
Foil Highlighting
For hair highlighting, you can opt for a few, partial, full foil or paneling. This process takes pieces of your hair and separates them using foil. The color is added to your hair and left to work wrapped in the foil. Consult your stylist as to which highlighting option is best for your hair type and texture.
Toner, Gloss, Color Balancer
A toner, gloss or color balancer is a treatment you can use to make your hair shine and the enhance the color. Color balancer is used to neutralize unwanted tones in the hair. A hair toner can restore balance to the color in your hair, especially if it is dull or washed out. Gloss will make your hair shine and look healthy.
Creative or Corrective Color
Creative color is when you are coloring or highlighting your hair with “wild” tones, such as using bright pink, purple, blue or red. Alternatively, you might want to have panels of highlights in different colors. Creative colors stand out, instead of traditional highlights, which are supposed to look natural. Corrective coloring is used to revert the artificial color in your hair, or correct the color. You might have been coloring your hair one way for a while, but now you want a different look.
Whenever you are ready to color your hair or add some type of highlight, knowing what to discuss with your stylist will enable you to make the right choice for your hairstyle and lifestyle.
