While appearance is not everything, it is certainly something to be concerned about. Looks range in importance from person to person, but that is not the case when it comes to gender. Women have always been leaders in all kinds of fashion, including everything from clothing to hair. Hair fashion has recently become of great importance to men, and there are a variety of reasons why hair fashion is no longer just for women.

As human beings, it’s a natural instinct to seek a mate. In order to do so, we must make ourselves look attractive to others. One way achieve this is by making hair styles just as important to men, as they are to women.  Choosing and maintaining a style is an important part of male grooming. Upkeep is essential in all walks of life; being presentable and maintaining a stylish haircut is important in attracting a potential mate, but also in attracting others, like an employer.

While some may disagree, there are males that are just as in tune to the trends in fashion going on around them as women are. Keeping up with friends and maintaining social influence is an equally important aspect to the male gender. That being said, males often change their hairstyles and model their hair fashions based on popular male celebrities.  Sometimes, males go against the grain and bring back a retro hairstyle or try a style meant for a woman, just as women have done in the past with retro styles and men’s styles. In this way, males are trying to fit in with the rest of society by following trends.

As with any human being, choosing a hairstyle that you are comfortable with is important no matter what gender you are. Confidence is the key to being true to yourself and males can exhibit confidence through the right hairstyle. For this reason, hair fashion is for both men and women. A boost in confidence can be as simple as a change in hairstyle, whether it’s cut differently or just styled in a different way through the use of products. No matter what change is made, hair fashion plays an important role in the development of confidence in men.

While in the past, women tended to dominate the fashion industry and all that it encompassed, that is certainly not the case today.  Men’s hair fashion is just as prominent and important in the world as women’s, and that fact will not be changing any time in the near future. Men will always have the need to attract, keep up with trending styles, and most importantly, carry themselves with a sense of confidence.
