5 Hot and Trendy Hairstyles for Summer 2013
When the weather heats up, we all tend to rotate out our winter wardrobes—so why not do the same with our hair? Summer offers the chance to try out a number of new styles that would be suitable for changing temperatures and the various social events that coincide with the season. The following is a list of some of the trendiest and most innovative hairstyles for summer 2013.
The Choppy Bob
Last month, supermodel Karlie Kloss cut off her long tresses for Vogue magazine, a decision that created a significant amount of buzz in the fashion industry and set off one of the season’s hottest trends. In lieu of her long layered locks, Kloss opted for a shoulder length cut with long bangs and choppy layers. This particular look is flattering for most face shapes, its lightness and truncated length make it appropriate for warmer temperatures.
The Beehive
The “beehive” hairstyle, once made popular during the 1960s, has received an update for summer 2013. While it is still defined by height, the hairdo is no longer the immovable and towering sculpture it once was, it is now much softer and more tousled, resembling a voluminous bun. Many models coming down the runway of the spring fashion shows also utilized hair pieces that gave this style added volume and texture.
Fishtail Braids
When the weather gets hot and humid, the inclination is to sweep hair off of the face. For this purpose, a fishtail braid can provide a unique alternative to the standard ponytail. To achieve this look, divide hair into three sections, cross the left-hand strand over the middle and right-hand strands, and then repeat with the right-hand strand. Continue to do this until the braid is finished, and then secure withan elastic band at the bottom to keep the style in place.
Beachy Waves
Another popular styling option for the summer is beachy, tousled waves. The appeal of this particular option is that it does not require any heat styling, which can be a chore in the summer months. The steps are fairly simple: when hair is damp, liberally apply a surf spray or texturizing spray all over the hair, then scrunch the hair with your fingers to create some loose waves. Finish with a light hairspray to ensure that the waves stay in place for hours.
Braided Bun
For formal events during the summer, such as weddings or cocktail parties, a low bun with braids can be an ideal option. Like the fishtail braid, this style keeps hair away from the face, thus preventing frizz and other heat and humidity-induced hair challenges. To get this look, gather hair into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck, braid two sections on either side, and then twist it into a low bun and secure it with bobby pins underneath.
Whatever the occasion, one of these easy and attractive hairstyles can put the finishing touches on any summer ensemble. Each one is on trend and of the moment, but also manages to evoke a classic and effortless appeal. Best of all, everyone can be completed in less than five steps.
