When Hair Becomes a Part of Your Brand
A vast majority of people out there care about their hair, and many of those people have a “signature style” that adds to their unique personality. In fact, you can probably think of a few different celebrities with famous hairstyles, whether they make you laugh, make you cry, or simply make you wonder what they were thinking. No matter how it makes you feel, their hair helps them get publicity. Here are some examples:
Fabio
Fabio Lanzoni is an Italian model and heartthrob. His long mane of gorgeous blonde hair is part of his signature look, and while his modeling career is no longer what it once was, his long hair is still the center of many a meme and joke. His iconic locks make him recognizable, and even today’s younger generation can pick him out in his “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter” commercials, or his adverts for Old Spice. Fabio is a prime example of how hair can become part of a brand – and make you famous all at the same time.
Donald Trump
Donald Trump has been in the spotlight for the majority of his adult life, and while his hair did not exactly make him famous, it is the first thing most people see in their mind’s eye when they hear his name. Trump is a very successful executive worth billions of dollars, and his celebrity status led him to his own television series, The Apprentice, and the slogan, “You’re Fired!” Trump’s hair is certainly questionable, and many people cannot ascertain whether it is a comb-over or a bad wig. Nonetheless, it is part of his brand and it seems to serve him well.
Carrot Top
Although Carrot Top’s popularity has plummeted over the last decade or so, this once prominent prop comic once tickled the hearts of people around the world. Despite the fact that his fame has trickled down to a few spots alongside Criss Angel on the A&E network in recent years and he has all but fallen off the radar, people can still pick him out in a crowd. In fact, he takes his stage name from his mop of red curls that are synonymous with his identity. His real name is Scott Thompson, just in case you were wondering.
Guy Fieri and Anne Burrell
Guy Fieri is everyone’s favorite foodie, and he has several of his own television shows on the Food Network to prove it. Anne Burrell is also a famous Food Network chef with several of her own series, as well. These two certainly broke the mold when it came to introducing modern flair into food television, and some critics claim that the network’s choice to embrace these chefs and their unique hairstyles led to their increases in ratings over the last several years. In any event, Guy’s platinum spikes and Anne’s “I just rolled out of bed” look suit them well, and they both keep viewers coming back for more.
Lady Gaga
Last, but most certainly not least, it seems blasphemous to leave Lady Gaga out when discussing hairstyles that can add brand value. Although it is impossible to predict what this popular (and incredibly odd) musician will do next, her willingness to change things up, and go bold, keep people interested in her. Whether she wears a steak as a headdress or a lobster as a hair clip, people are enthralled.
As you can see, there is more to hair than just making sure it is clean and styled appropriately. When done correctly, hair is a valuable branding tool, and one that makes you memorable to others. Although no one would ever condone a bad comb-over or a terrible wig, sometimes standing out from the crowd can be a good thing.
